Upholstery Workshops

These two 5-day courses first cover basic upholstery fabrication and then move to more advanced techniques required for components like bucket seats and bolsters.

Marine Upholstery Workshop I

Learn how to pattern, measure, cut, and sew basic upholstery, including

  • Seating design
  • Cutting, shaping, and bonding foam
  • Piping, striping, track welting, and zippers
  • Using patterned fabrics and multiple colors

During the course, students will fabricate a boat cushions (including a contoured V-berth cushion) and multi-paneled cushion cover, which they can take home.

Marine Upholstery Workshop II

In this workshop, learn advanced upholstery techniques, including

  • Bucket seats
  • Knee rolls and quick covers
  • Contoured corners and U-shaped dinette style seating
  • Bolsters
  • End caps
  • Base building and repair

Each student will be provided with a sewing machine to use during these courses.

These workshops are open to beginners who have completed the basic canvas workshop and to experienced canvas workers. Students will be able to take home their finished products at the end of each workshop.
